Marriage 1 : Zerruih MOORE m. 19 May 1803 Jefferson County, Kentucky, b. 17 February 1785, d. 05 October 1843
Notes:
Colonel James Frances Moore served in the Revolutionary War as a Captain in the Infantry. He came into Kentucky at an early date and owned large tracts of land. Some of this land he received for his services in the war, while other tracts he received as payment for the surveys he made for other owners. It was stated by a descenant, Dr. Frank Strickler, that Col. Moore owned as much as 40,000 acres of land here in Kentucky and much of this land was around Orell to Shepherdsville. Col. James F. Moore departed this life on the 14th day of December, 1809; from a letter of John Jones, Executor of the Moore estate, now owned by the Miller family.
From the first marriage of Col. James Frances Moore there was one child, Elizabeth (Mrs. Jesse Pendergast). His second wife's name was Elizabeth Higgins. Elizabeth Higgins Moore died May 19, 1834, in Jefferson County. Kentucky was sparsely settled at this time, and there was some question of his actualy marriage the second time. But in one deed on a division of property, he specifically discounted this gossip. From this marriage to Elizabeth there were seven children; Zurulah (Mrs. John Jones), Cassandra (Mrs. Robert Miller), Hiram, Hector, George, Nemrod, and Frances.
Zerulah Moore married Col. John R. Jones. Col. Jones was born in Loudon County, Virginia, November 24, 1778 and he died in Jefferson County. Zerulah was born in 1785 and died October 5, 1843. John Jones was the sone of Captain Edward Jones (Feb. 5, 1745 - __) who served in the Revolutionary War. Capt. Jones founded the Jones Academy, the first academy in Jefferson County, near Buchel.
Zerulah's husband, John, served in the War of 1812. Their son, Edward Jones, was a steamboat man and was also known to be a spy in the Confederate Army. He was captured in New Orleans and sentenced to Skip Island for execution. He escaped to Mexico and later returned to Kentucky. Capt. Edward Jones (1809-1875) married Elizabeth Jane Long (1830-1915) of New Castle, Henry County, Kentucky. One daugher from this union, Annie Long Jones, married Frank Strickler in Bethany CHurch in 1882. Another son, John married Minnie Stewart, from the Steward family at Valley Road and Old Salt Pike, now Dixie Highway.
Dr. Frank Strickler a sone of Frank and Ann Jones Strickler, still owns part of the original farm. This property stands on the North side of Valley Road across from Valley Elementary School.
