Cabin Creek Covered Bridge (or Rectorville or Mackey-Hughes) alongside Cabin Creek Road near Cottageville, Lewis County. 1873.
The Cabin Creek Covered Bridge was closed on June 13, 2008 to pedestrian traffic following storms that damaged the bridge's support structure. Visitors should not walk or climb on or near the structure. The bridge is currently in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet restoration program. On Sept. 29, 2008 it was reported that this bridge is next on the state's restoration plan and that the search is on for restoration funding but that no timeline has been established. On Nov. 19, 2008 it was reported that a steel supporting truss from the Johnson Creek Covered Bridge Restoration Project would be used to support this bridge until mandatory studies could be completed and enough funds could be secured to fully restore this bridge. On Feb. 20, 2009 it was reported that a steel reinforcement system should be in place within a few weeks but additional work will be delayed until funding is secured. The steel support structure began inching its way through the bridge on Mar. 21, 2009 and was expected to take four days to place. On June 5, 2010, it was reported that funding is in place and they were waiting for allocation of the funds so that they could advertise for bids. On Jan. 25, 2011 it was reported that a technical glitch in contract language has delayed restoration efforts.
