National EMS Memorial names 1999 honorees Press Release OILVILLE, Virginia The National EMS Memorial Service today released the names of the 27 individuals to be honored at the 1999 National EMS Memorial Service to be held Saturday, May 29, 1999 in Roanoke Virginia [list attached]. The National EMS Memorial Service has, since 1993, been honoring those EMS providers who have given their lives in the line of duty. The 27 individuals being honored this year join 141 others, previously honored by the Service. Each year, at a service held at the Greene Memorial Church in Roanoke, members of the honoree's families are presented with a medallion, symbolizing eternal memory; a U.S. Flag which has flown over the Nation's Capital, symbolizing service to the country; and a White Rose, symbolizing their undying love. Each honoree's name is engraved on a bronze oak leaf which is added to the "Tree of Life", the permanent memorial on exhibit at the "To The Rescue" Museum in Roanoke. Aldridge of Caldwell County Rescue Squad of Princeton, KY, who died in the line of duty from a pulmonary embolism while responding to an EMS call on November 23. 1994. Clifford S. "Stan" Berg of AirMed, University of Utah Health Science Center, of Salt Lake City, UT, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on January 11th, 1998. Shayne D, Carnahan of AirMed, University of Utah Health Science Center, of Salt Lake City, UT, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on January 11th, 1998. Carlos De La Fuente Sr. of Valley AirCare of Harlingen, TX, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on June 5th, 1998. John M. "Jack" Goodwin of Guthrie One Helicopter, of Sayre, PA, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on January 26th, 1991. Mark W. Haussler of Guthrie One Helicopter, of Sayre, PA, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on January 26th, 1991. Timothy J. Hale of Phoenix Fire Department of Phoenix, AZ, who died in the line of duty from being struck by a motor vehicle while at the scene of an ambulance call on February 12th, 1994. Timothy E. Hynes of AirMed, University of Utah Health Science Center, of Salt Lake City, UT, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on January 11th, 1998. Billy D. Johnson of Lifeline Ambulance Service of Bypro, KY, who died in the line of duty in an ambulance collision with a van on December 7th, 1991. Brenda M. Leinweber of Valley AirCare of Harlingen, TX, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on June 5th, 1998. Tom Long, Jr. of Ambulance Section, Blanchfield Army Community Hospital at Fort Campbell, KY, who died in the line of duty of a heart attack on October 8th, 1998. James E. Lowe of G & B Ambulance Service of Salyersville, KY, who died in the line of duty in an ambulance collision with a tractor trailer coal truck on September 14th, 1992. Donald C. Martin of Van Buren Fire and Ambulance Department of Van Buren, ME, who died in the line of duty of a heart attack on August 3rd, 1998. Vincente A. Spalding III of Putnam County EMS of Winfield, WV, who died in the line of duty in an ambulance collision with a tractor trailer truck on October 12th, 1998. Merton M. "Tiff" Tiffany of Sioux Valley Hospital Intensive Air Team of Sioux Falls, SD, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on August 20th, 1998. Melissa "Missy" Wittry of Sioux Valley Hospital Intensive Air Team of Sioux Falls, SD, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on August 20th, 1998.
