EMS Academy's CCEMT-P course has 5 vacancies left

BOWLING GREEN — The Kentucky EMS Academy's first course — Critical Care Paramedic (CCEMT-P) —  starts in a month and only has 5 vacancies left.

This course, which will be held in Bowling Green on April 12 through 23, will help prepare paramedics and nurses to serve with competence and confidence in meeting the needs of critical care patients undergoing interfacility transports.  Essentially, CCEMT-P is "post graduate education" for the paramedic or nurse that attempts to standardize training and levels of care in interfacility transport.

CCEMT-P is open to any paramedic or registered nurse who has worked in that capacity for two (2) years.  Current CPR, ACLS, BTLS/PHTLS (or equivalent) and PALS are required.

This course will consist of 80 hours (classroom/skills).  The content will include laboratory data collection, hemodynamic monitoring, 12 Lead EKG monitoring, implantable cardioverter defibrillator and cardiac pacemakers, intra-aortic balloon pumps, feeding tubes, catheters and ostomies, ventilators, invasive lines, IV pumps, pressure infusers, and much more.

The faculty has been approved by UMBC and the Kentucky EMS Academy.  The speakers will be of national notoriety.

The cost of the course will be $800.00.  Final deadline for registration will be March 22, 1999.  Enrollment is limited to 25.
