Allstate awards grants for safety programs

PRNewswire

TALLAHASSE, Florida — Allstate Foundation today announced a donation of $5,000 to the Florida Stay Alive From Education (S.A.F.E.) Corporation. Using local police, fire, and EMS personnel, the S.A.F.E. program stages mock automobile crashes in middle and high schools and on college campuses to illustrate possible consequences of driving under the influence. S.A.F.E. helped reduce Leon County traffic fatalities by 78% in 1998.

According to Allstate Regional Vice President Steve Monahan, "Allstate is committed to supporting programs for auto and highway safety. S.A.F.E. provides such valuable programs to students and communities throughout Florida. We are proud to be a small part of a successful program like S.A.F.E."

S.A.F.E. instructor Vince Easevoli added, "The kids really respond to this material. It's important that they understand the serious consequences of drinking and driving, and S.A.F.E. makes a lasting impression on them. Without support from Allstate, our program would not be as successful."

The Allstate Foundation provides funds to non-profit organizations in the areas of homes and neighborhoods, auto and highway safety and personal safety and security. The foundation supports America's Promise -- The alliance for Youth by targeting grants to support at-risk youth in Florida. During 1999, the Foundation will allocate more than $300,000 in Florida grants and $8 million countrywide.
