Ashland holds first paramedic class in 19 years

By TOM ADAMS

RUSSELL — Paramedic Emergency Ambulance Service, Inc. (Greenup Co. E.M.S) is preparing to launch the first paramedic class in Ashland since 1980.

The class will be coordinated by Debbie Miller, RN and Mark Hammond, EMT-P.

In 1975, Ashland was the site of one of the first two paramedic classes taught in Kentucky. Only 3 classes were taught in the Ashland area. This will be another pilot class that hopefully will launch many more to come.

The class meets for the first time tomorrow. Twenty students were selected from many applications and were evaluated by written and skills exams, as well as personal interviews. Dr. Roy Keys, medical director for P.E.A.S.I, will also be the medical director for this training program.
