Funeral arrangements for Larry Atwell By NAME LOUISVILLE — Retired Newport Fire Chief Larry Bryan Atwell, 67, passed away Sunday. Larry was retired after 28 years with the Louisville Fire Department and after 19 years with the City of Newport Fire Department where he was Chief. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, had been an instructor at the National Fire Academy in Emmetsburg, Maryland, a past president of the Campbell County Fire Fighters and an avid fan of both the UofL Baseball and North Bullitt High School Football teams. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Wilma Ruth (nee Hooker); daughters, Dawn Atwell, Mary Ann Cornette (Kevin), Inna Gagzheyan (Ruslan), and Lena Vimalan (Vee); grandchildren, Rachel Georganna “Banana”, Madelyn Renee “Mad Pie”, Christiana Alexa “Pumpkin”, and Brandon Lawrence “Little Guy”; siblings, Donnie Paris and Judy Gliessner (Gary); adopted children, Scott Scholl and Paul and Trish Uebel; and his many friends. Funeral services will be held 12 Noon, Wednesday at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, with entombment to follow in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 – 8 P.M. Tuesday and 9 A.M. to 12 Noon Wednesday at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home; 3800 Bardstown Road.
