Clarification on Instructor Orientation
By KEITH SMITH FRANKFORT — After posting the training announcement regarding the upcoming Instructor Orientation class sponsored by the Board, a couple of questions have been raised I would like to clarify. First, all requirements to become an EMS Instructor in Kentucky can be found at the following link: http://kbems.kctcs.edu/kbems/Home/InstructorsEvaluators/InitialCertification/tabid/119/Default.aspx The class that will take place satisfies requirement #8 on the checklist. We will discuss 202 KAR 7:601 which governs EMS education in the State and briefly cover the National Standard Curriculum for each level (FR, EMT-B, EMT-P). Requirement #3 indicates that you must complete a Board Approved Methods of Instruction (MOI) Course. You may find what MOI courses are approved at the same link provided above. There is one change that needs to be noted; when completing all the requirements to become an instructor and you are ready to submit your documentation to the Board, make your check or money order out to Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services, NOT Kentucky State Treasurer. There will be a change made to the checklist very soon. There is no charge for this class. You do not need to bring any paperwork with you other than your certification/licensure card issued by the Board so that we can verify your level of training. This class is filling up quickly, so if you would like to attend, please e-mail me soon so I may add your name to the roster.
