KBEMS preparing list for potential medical response to Florida By
JOHN HULTGREN FRANKFORT — The Kentucky Board of EMS is preparing a list, at the request of Florida EMA officials, of EMS personnel capable of responding to Florida if needed. Hurricane Charley, the second hurricane to hit Florida today, is getting more powerful as it nears Florida's Gulf Coast. Charley has been upgraded to a Category 4 hurricane, with sustained winds of up to 145 mph. The storm is expected to hit land between Sarasota and the Tampa Bay area this afternoon. EMS personnel capable of being part of a medical response team have been asked to e-mail KBEMS executive director Brian Bishop at Brian.Bishop@mail.state.ky.us with their name, level of certification or licensure, a list of any disaster experience, and appropriate contact information. Bishop stated that KBEMS is not formally putting together a response team at the current time, but they are working with Florida EMA in case Kentucky's assistance is requested.
