'Approved EMS Evaluator Training Course' offered

By THERESA MARTIN
President, EMS Educators of Kentucky

As you may or may not be aware the new EMS regulations have created a requirement for EMS Educators serving as Evaluators for State Certification Examinations to attend an “approved EMS Evaluator Training Course”. You may find the regulations on this issue at www.kbems.org listed under legislative information then review the KAR for Training, education and continuing education.

At the request of KBEMS staff EMSEK has appointed a committee working in concert with the KBEMS staff to develop a course for EMS Evaluators Level I (First Responder), Level II (EMT-Basic) and Level III (Paramedic).

The initial open offering of this course will be held on March 27, 2004 at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington.  The course is eight hours in duration and will address all three levels of Evaluator Certification.

This is being held as the EMSEK Spring CEU offering and will be held in conjunction with an EMSEK Board of Directors meeting Friday night the 26th.  This offering does have an associated cost of $100.00 to members of EMSEK and to Non-Members of EMSEK a cost of $150.00 (which includes a one year membership for the non-member) due to the following expenses:

·        Materials

·        Breakout Rooms

·        Continental Breakfast

·        Lunch

·        Afternoon Snack and

·        Some AV Equipment

Attendees are responsible for personal lodging arrangements.  The Marriot Griffin Gate Resort has offered EMS a discounted rate of $84.00 for regular rooms plus taxes.  Reservations for the discounted rate must be made by MARCH 4, 2004 by calling: 1 (800) 228-9290 or local calling (859) 231-5100.

It is important to remember that this is a required course by January 1, 2005 and offerings will be limited.  The course requires prepaid pre-registration and will be filled on a first come first serve basis; class size is limited to 150 people.

Also if you are interested KAPA will be hosting a session all day Friday aimed at Local elected officials, EMS managers, supervisors and administrative staff.  Information on this offering will be mailed out by KAPA.

Sincerely
EMSEK
