Louisville Fire and Rescue earns accreditation

By LES BANDY
Louisville Fire and Rescue Press Release

LOUISVILLE — On Oct. 6 at the Board of Directors meeting, the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services awarded Louisville Fire and Rescue a full three-year accreditation for compliance with national standards of excellence.

Louisville Fire and Rescue became the eighth fire based ambulance service in the country to successfully complete the voluntary review process, which included completion of a comprehensive application and on-site review by national experts in Emergency Medical Services.

With this achievement, Louisville Fire and Rescue becomes the only fire based ambulance service accredited in Kentucky.  Louisville Fire and Rescue is also the largest fire based ambulance service accredited in the United States.

The Commission of Accreditation of Ambulance Services is a non-profit organization, which was established to encourage and promote quality patient care in America's medical transport system.

The primary focus of the Commission is creating standards regarding high-quality patient care.  To that end, the Commission has established national standards that not only address the delivery of patient care, but also the ambulance service's total operations and its relationships with other agencies, the general public, and the medical community.

The Commission's standards often exceed state or local licensing requirements.
