KFA EMS chair resigns over EMT-I program By
JOHN HULTGREN GRAYSON — Duane Suttles resigned as EMS chair for the Kentucky Firefighters Association today, citing opposition to the proposed EMT-Intermediate program. In a letter to KFA President William Carver, Suttles said "It comes with great regret, however, I feel that several proposed changes, either regulatory or statute, within state government are going to have a negative impact on the fire service and EMS as a whole and I wish to distance myself from any involvement in these changes." "It seems the KFA has been throwing its support behind EMS changes without first seeking my input as chair and I have been catching a lot of flack from the caregivers that will be affected," Suttles said. "I feel we are beginning to trade lives for dollars. I am strongly opposed to the EMT-Intermediate program as it is being proposed and I am opposed to the majority of bills relating to EMS that have been introduced in this year's legislation. It is my opinion that our leadership is being influenced by other organization that, in my opinion, are seeking gain that will not serve the best interests of the citizens or responders of this great Commonwealth," Suttles said.
