2002 EMS Olympics scheduled By
TOM FURGERSON It’s time once again for the Kentucky EMS Olympics to start competitions. The Olympics will again be sponsored by Kentucky Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, for further information visit our website at www.kaemt.org or call the events manager Tom Furgerson at 1-270-836-7428. Our sponsors, and competitor fees fund this event. Please feel free to visit the sponsor page on our website and give these sponsors the opportunity to have your business. The events this year will ad some new competitions to try and include all aspects of EMS personnel. From the street EMT or Medic, to the supervisor who has to spend the majority of his time in the office, or classroom. The old events ALS individual, ALS team, BLS individual, BLS team and Team Rescue will return. The new events are a written examination for ALS and BLS competitors. A POV car show is another new event along with a physical fitness challenge. For more information on these feel free to visit the KAEMT web site or call the Events Manager. The events this year will be held in Somerset Kentucky on April 6th and 7th, Louisville Kentucky on June 8th and 9th, Hazard Kentucky on June 22nd and 23rd, Madisonville Kentucky on July 27th and 28th. This year is also going to see an out-of-state region held in Elizabethtown Kentucky on August 10th and 11th. The finals will once again be held in accordance with KAPA’s State EMS Conference in Owensboro Kentucky. The out-of-state folks will be able to compete at the finals, this will give our EMS folks the opportunity to compete against some other states to see just how good we really are. The events again this year will be for EMT-First Responders, EMT’s, Paramedics, and Fire Fighters these credentials are checked prior to competition. We are also giving a two-dollar discount to all KAEMT members, so if you’re not a member go online and join us soon. Last years events found about 60 competitors in all four regions. The EMS Olympics committee this year is hoping to see closer to 200. We will be publishing these events in JEMS, NAEMT newsletter, WKEMS newsletter, and several other publications. We are asking at this time for everyone in the EMS community to help us spread the word about the upcoming competitions in your areas. When you see some of your competitors from other services challenge them to compete against you. If you belong to a Volunteer Fire Department or have a friend who does feel free to take them some applications, or feel free to print this letter and post it in your ER, fire department, ambulance service or anywhere else you think EMS folks would see it.
