The Medical Center Paramedic Course
Course Description:
The Medical Center Paramedic Course is a comprehensive program that
prepares qualified Emergency Medical Technicians for advancement to the
level of Paramedic with appropriate knowledge and skills for potential
employment in the field of pre-hospital care.
The training program includes classroom lecture/lab, clinical practice
and field internship. The didactic phase is 8 hours/day, 2 days/week for
approximately 36 weeks. Classes will be held on Wednesday and Friday from
1000-1900 during the didactic phase of the program. Clinical experiences
will be scheduled on a rotational schedule during the didactic portion of
the class. Field internship will be permitted after the conclusion of the
didactic phase.
The Maximum Class Size is 30 Students. Tuition for students will be
$2500. This includes all required books, liability insurance and lab coats.
Program Timetable:
- Didactic Phase: (495 Hours): W/F
(10am-7pm) - Begins February 20th 2002
- Clinical Phase: (250 Hours):
- ED/Pediatric ED/Triage: (166 Hours)
- CCU/ICU: (32 Hours)
- Surgery/Anesthesia: (24 Hours)
- Labor and Delivery: (16 Hours)
- Psychiatrics: (8 Hours)
- Morgue: (4 Hours)
- Field Rotation Phase: (500 Hours Minimum):
A minimum of 500 hours is
required with at least 40 ALS patient contacts. Skills Evaluated include but
are not limited to:
- Defibrillation
- IV Techniques
- ET Intubations
- Medication Administration
- ALS Scene Management
Prerequisites:
- A completed application with ALL supporting documentation must be on
file at The Medical Center Training Department no later than January 14th,
2002.
- Required
Supporting Documentation:
- High School Diploma or General Education Equivalence (GED)
certificate
- Current CPR certification (American Heart Association, American Red
Cross or National Safety Council)
- Current Kentucky Emergency Medical Technician or Nationally
Registered Emergency Medical Technician
- Current Immunization Record (Hepatitis B and Rubella) also current
copy of TB Skin test
- Completion of the pre-entrance exam and interview on January 18th,
2002.
