Charlie Haynes, Boyd County paramedic, loses battle with cancer By
MARTY JOHNSON ASHLAND — Today, at Boyd County EMS, we lost a Brother. Charlie Haynes lost his battle with stomach cancer at 02:40 hrs on Thursday. Charlie was diagnosed with stomach cancer last June and not expected to live past last October, but in true Charlie Haynes fashion he lived a year longer than expected. At the time of his retirement Charlie held the position of Operations Manager at Boyd County EMS. Charlie was one of the original members of BCEMS, working here for the entire 25 years of our existence. Funeral arrangements are still pending. I would like to take this time to thank everyone who made contributions to Charlie during his illness, I can not explain how the out pouring of sympathy effected Charlie; I delivered the contributions along with cards and notes and Charlie would sit and shake his head with tears in his eyes and say: “Man, I just can’t believe people are helping me out like this.” Charlie will be missed terribly, but his dedication to the citizens of Boyd County, Kentucky, and the Country will not be forgotten. Charlie was one of the first paramedics in the state, holding license number 121-P.
