Tom Long, Jr.

Services for Tom Long Jr., 59, Hickory Ridge Apartments, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olive Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bruce Kendrick and Eddie Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Cave Spring Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Adams and Sons Mortuary, and visitation with the family will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

He died Thursday at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, of natural causes.

A native of Hopkinsville, he was born March 29, 1939, the son of the late Tome and Tinnie Dawson Long. He had worked for 30 years as a nurse at Fort Campbell with emergency services and had also served as administrator of Gainsville Personal Care Center for 10 years. At Fort Campbell he had received numerous awards for his achievements and performance and was a union steward. He had served on the Human Relations Commission and as commander of an American Legion post in Tennessee. He was a member of Moores Baptist Church and was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include three sons, Michael, Falls Church, Va.; Marcus, Frankfort, Germany; Thomas Christopher Long, Clarksville, Tenn.; six daughters, Regina Merriweather, Agusta, Ga.; Barbara Wilson, Crofton; Lolita Long and Theressa Dillard, both of Hopkinsville; Sherrie Long and Nichelle Long, both of Clarksville, Tenn.; four foster children, Brenda Webb Atkins, Agusta; Lisa Copeland, South Carolina; Timothy Helton and Jefferson Helton, both of Clarksville; two brothers, James K. and Carl W. Long, both of Hopkinsville; a sister, Mary Newell, Hopkinsville and 13 grandchildren.
