Ambulance
blamed in fatal collision
OIL SPRINGS An ambulance was at fault in a fiery collision with a coal
truck that killed four people Sept. 14, a state police investigator said yesterday.
Trooper Scott Hazelette of the Pikeville post said the G&B Ambulance Service
vehicle crossed into the eastbound land of U.S. 460 in Johnson County and hit the
tractor-trailer head-on. He said it was unclear whether driver error or a mechanical
problem caused the ambulance to veer out of its lane in the slight curve. The truck
driver, two emergency medical technicians and the ambulance patient, Margaret Bailey of
Salyersville, were killed.
