Two
killed as ambulance collides with van in Floyd
Lexington Herald Leader Staff Report
MINNIE A Floyd County ambulance trying to pass a car collided head-on with
a van Saturday afternoon, killing two people and injuring five others.
Dead are the van's driver, Ivle Moore, 68, of McDowell, and a paramedic in the
ambulance, Billy Dean Johnson, 40, of Weeksbury.
The Life Line Company ambulance was taking a dialysis patient home to Minnie when
the accident occurred at 3:55 p.m., the Floyd County coroner's office said.
Robert Hall II was driving the ambulance east of Ky. 122 in southern Floyd County
when he crossed over the lane to pass a car and collided with Moore's van, the coroner's
office said.
Moore died at the scene. Johnson was taken to McDowell Appalachian Regional
Hospital, where he died at 4:45 p.m.
The ambulance apparently did not have its lights or siren on. No one in either
vehicle was wearing a seat belt, state police said.
A passenger in the van, Ida Moore, 68, of McDowell, was flown to the University
of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. She was in fair condition last night.
Hall, 33, of Wheelwright, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington,
where he was in satisfactory condition yesterday.
Another paramedic, Sherry Stumbo, 35, of McDowell, was in satisfactory condition
last night at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
The dialysis patient, Oscar Mosley, 82, of Minnie, was in fair condition at the
UK Hospital. Alma Mosley, 62, was in good condition at the McDowell hospital.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Scott Hopkins is investigating.
Services for Johnson, husband of Linda Burke Johnson, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday
at his home. Visitation anytime at the home.
Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
