Fallen EMT laid to rest

A 27-year-old Jefferson County EMT who was stricken with bacterial meningitis last week was laid to rest Monday.

Brian Jennemann had been on the job for only a few months, but his death was felt throughout the community, especially those he worked with.

His EMS partner, Matt Creed, was driving the ambulance that carried Jennamann's flag-draped coffin from Northeast Christian Church to the cemetery at shortly after 1 p.m. The ambulance will be forever marked "In Memory Of Technician B. Jennemann."

"It's a great honor," Creed told NewsChannel 32's Rob Foshee Monday morning. "I truly wish I didn't have to do it, but in the field we have to take care of our partner as much as we take care of ourselves. It's my responsibility to do it."

The funeral procession along Highway 22 stretched close to two miles long. Ambulances from all over Kentucky turned on their emergency lights, but kept their sirens silent.

Fire engine ladders formed an archway at Louisville Memorial Gardens East, Jennemman's final resting place, as bagpipers and a drum played.

During the service, a dispatcher made the following announcement over the radio:

"Attention all squad units. This is the final call for technician Brian Jennemann. He will be missed by Jefferson County EMS and the entire EMS community. Show technician Brian Jennemann 10-7 for duty and 10-8 in our hearts and memories. God bless and Godspeed.

The family has requested that all forms of sympathy be expressed through contributions to the Brian Jennemann Paramedic Training Scholarship Fund.

Those contributions can be made at any area Fifth Third Bank location or mailed to the County Judge Executive's office at 527 West Jefferson Street, Louisville, KY, 40202.
