Dear Senator [name] or Representative [name]:
I am writing as a concerned [constituent if you are
one, or supporter] regarding House Bill 153, which would extend the state
Line-Of-Duty-Death Benefit to all emergency medical services responders.
[Optional: a short explanation of how this bill
affects your life, such as I or My husband or wife is an emergency medical
technician who routinely is placed in dangerous situations while responding to
the emergency medical needs of our community.]
Twenty-two emergency medical responders have died in
the line-of-duty in the Commonwealth since 1960. The last two occurred in 2008
and include Christa Burchett, a paramedic who was killed while loading her
patient into her ambulance by a coal truck that lost control on an icy highway.
Emergency medical responders encounter many of the same risks that law
enforcement and the fire service encounters, usually while they are standing
alongside and working with these other dedicated professionals protecting our
community.
I am asking you to vote Yes on this bill that would
help extend this valuable benefit to the survivors of our Commonwealth’s
emergency medical responders.
Thank you for taking the time to read of my concerns
regarding this Line-Of-Duty-Death Benefit bill.
Respectfully,
