The award honors an EMT-Instructor who is outstanding in the training they provide, furthering the future of EMTs and all EMS providers in the state.

Theresa Martin

  • Over the years there have been many dedicated instructors that have given tirelessly of their time and effort on behalf of the Kentucky EMT Instructors' Association, but none more than this year's recipient.
       A list of all this instructor's accomplishments would be impossible to compile but include:
       Serving as an EMT instructor since 1977, teaching an average of two classes per year and training in excess of 1,000 students for certification;
       Serving as chair of the BLS Committee of the EMS Advisory Council;
       Serving KEMTIA as an executive board member since 1992, chairing many committees and sub-committees and always an active member;
       Serving as a significant contributor to the initial AED curriculum and pilot programs; and
       Serving as a BTLS instructor and an RN for 33 years.
       This instructor still maintains a balance with career and personal life. She is a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She coached softball for over 10 years and is active in her church and Relay for Life.
       Loyalty and dedication are a way of life for this instructor. Countless time and travel have been donated on the behalf of EMS program development and delivery. This instructor is a leader and a team player, never shirking responsibility and never asking what she would not do herself.
       Most importantly, all of this is accomplished with a care and concern for others that is rarely matched. Every family member, student, KEMTIA member, friend, patient, and yes, stranger is shown respect and value.
       She sets the standard for EMS representation and rightly deserves the honor of becoming the recipient for the prestigious Dr. Jack Carey Award for 2001.
