EMS Leadership and Responsibilities
Workshop

Corbin, KY — This
workshop, funded through a grant from the State Office of Rural Health, will
provide EMS Board members and managers with an intensive, one-day overview
of their responsibilities, administrative strategies, tactics and methods,
and opportunities for leadership. The workshop will blend basic material
for new managers and Board members with more advanced material for
experienced EMS staff. Topics covered will include:
I. Board Organization,
Meetings and Responsibilities, including:
Review and discussion of state
law (KRS 108) covering ambulance boards, duties and requirements,
open meetings, and open records, and basic regulatory issues.
II. Leadership
and Planning, including:
Requirements for effective
leadership, environmental analysis and strategic planning,
assessment and accountability, dealing with the media, and ethics.
III.
Fiscal and Budgetary Oversight and Leadership, including:
Organizing and analyzing revenue
sources, cash flow, and budgets, anticipating and avoiding fiscal
problems, collections practices, and fiscal leadership.
IV.
Human Resources Oversight and Leadership, including:
Key legal and regulatory
requirements, limitations on at-will employment, wage and hour
requirements, non-discrimination, sexual harassment, and workforce
development.
