KBEMS Update

From Sherman

Hockenbury

Sherman re-capped the process in which KBEMS was placed under KCTCS and how the hiring process of new employees worked. This was done to dispel any rumors regarding this process. A new KBEMS Attorney has been hired and approx 20 Executive Director applications are currently under consideration. Sherman assured everyone that the KBEMS Personnel committee was very involved in the hiring process. Sherman also stated that the KBEMS Personnel committee in conjunction with KCTCS would be looking into the hiring of a Deputy Director soon.

Legislative Update

Sherman updated everyone on the Medicare Ambulance relief bill, which is HR 2164 and SR 1310, these bills basically include a 5% annual increase for 2008 and 2009. This bill was driven by the release of the GAO study earlier in the year.

The OHS 10% set aside for EMS sponsored by Hal Rogers still seems to be on track. Also the Kentucky Medicaid fuel relief bill is still sitting on the Governor’s desk.
